What is a Deionized Water Tanks?

A deionized (DI) water tank is a specially built pressure vessel that consists of ion exchange resins, which replace pollutant ions in water with less objectionable ions. Deionized water tanks typically consist of anion and cation exchange resins, which extract positively and negatively charged ions.

They generate high-quality water often referred to as deionized or demineralized water. NEWater manufactures different types of DI water tanks and our units are widely used in homes, industries, and commercial entities.

How Do Deionized (DI) Water Tanks Work?

DI water tanks get rid of objectionable ions such as Calcium (Ca2+) and Magnesium (Mg2+) using a process referred to as ion exchange. In mixed-bed DI water tanks, the raw water is injected into a pressure vessel housing both the anion and cation exchange resins. Pollutant ions with a positive charge are then replaced with hydrogen (H+) ions released by the cation exchange resin.

Negatively charged ions, such as sulfate (SO4-) and chloride (Cl-) are then exchanged for hydroxyl ions (OH-) released by the anion exchange resin. In dual-bed DI water tanks, the anion and cation exchange resins are housed in two separate pressure vessels. The deionization process commences with the removal of cationic pollutants followed by the removal of anionic impurities.

DI Water Tanks Frequently Asked Questions

With the growth and diversification of industrialization, the demand for high-purity water has proliferated significantly. DI water tanks are water purification systems that generate a distinct quality of purified water and their fields of application are diverse. Beneath, we look at the web’s most frequently asked questions regarding DI water tanks.

Can You Drink Deionized Water?

Although deionized water is drinkable, it is not recommended as the ideal drinking water. Deionized water is stripped of all minerals and some of the removed minerals such as Calcium and Magnesium are needed by the human body. However, to make deionized water healthy drinking water, one can re-mineralize it to restore all essential minerals.

How Much Does a Deionized Water Tank Cost?

Over the years, the cost of investing in and operationalizing deionized water tanks has shrunk significantly. This is primarily thanks to the innovation of newer, efficient technologies that have cut down production costs.

However, estimating the price of a deionization water system can be pretty difficult due to differences in essential aspects such as size, type, and construction material. To get accurate quotations on our systems, kindly visit NEWater.

What Are the Advantages of Deionization (DI) Water Tank?

Deionized water tanks are extremely effective and efficient water purification systems. They are broadly used in different industries and some of their primary advantages include;

  • Cost-efficiency.
  • Easy installation.
  • Auto-regeneration.
  • Can function continually for long periods.
  • Effective removal of dissolved ions.

How Do You Regenerate a Deionized Water Tank?

Deionized water tanks get rid of objectionable ions using ion exchange resins. Over time, the seized objectionable ions decrease the exchange capacity of the DI resins resulting in low-quality water.  To restore the resin’s optimum exchange capacity, regeneration is undertaken. The process of DI resin regeneration is ordinarily undertaken in 4 steps;

  • Backwashing.
  • Chemical injection.
  • Slow rinse.
  • Fast rinse.
Which Variables Can Affect the Performance of Your DI Exchange Tank?

The performance of your DI water tank is typically influenced by a number of factors such as:

  • Feedwater characteristics and effluent quality requirements: Low-quality feed water can deteriorate the performance of your system and lower the quality of deionized water generated.
  • Tank size: The larger the DI tank, the higher the flow rate, and vice versa.
  • Bed type: Individual DI bed tanks produce higher volumes and lower masses, while mixed DI bed tanks produce lower volumes and higher grades.
How Long Does a Deionized Water Tank Last?

Deionized (DI) resins typically have a life span of 5 to 10 years. NEWater’s DI water tanks are made using the finest material and latest technologies, which guarantee an extended lifespan. Resin replacement is hardly needed and this lowers the operational and maintenance costs significantly.
